In order to write a successful essay, you must organize your thoughts. By taking what’s already in your head and putting it to paper, you are able to see connections and links between ideas more clearly. This structure serves as a foundation for your paper. Use either an outline or a diagram to jot down your ideas and organize them. To create a diagram, write your topic in the middle of your page. Draw three to five lines branching off from this topic and write down your main ideas at the ends of these lines. Draw more lines off these main ideas and include any thoughts you may have on these ideas. If you prefer to create an outline, write your topic at the top of the page. From there, begin to list your main ideas, leaving space under each one. In this space, make sure to list other smaller ideas that relate to each main idea. Doing this will allow you to see connections and will help you to write a more organized essay.

IELTS GENERAL

Task - I

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task. 

You organized a birthday party at your place and borrowed something from your friend for the same. But it was damaged at the party.
Write a letter to your friend. In your letter, describe
what it was
how it was damaged
what you will do about it 

Write at least 150 words. 

Task - II

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.

Write about the following topic: 
It is believed that there is a negative impact of tourism on tourist spots which is majorly due to the behavior of people who visit there. Why do you think that people behave badly when they visit some places? Which measures can be taken up to resolve this issue?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience. 

Write at least 250 words.

Use of ‘THE’

Sometimes people tend to use ‘THE’ unnecessarily in sentences without any consideration where it is not required, and the meaning of the sentence completely changes because of unnecessary use of articles and preposition so we should not overlook these errors. Let’s see the correct use of ‘THE’ here.

We use ‘THE’ when we speak of a particular person, things already referred to:

The Girl standing there is my sister.

Let’s see some cases for correct use of ‘THE’:

1. With the Name of Oceans, island, gulf, river and mountains:

e.g. The Himalaya, The Persian Gulf, The Andaman Islands, The Ganga river

2. With certain Books:

e.g. The Vedas, The Bible, The Ramayana, The Kuran

3. With Musical instruments:

e.g. The flute, The violin, The Tabla,

4. With Religious Group:

e.g. The Hindus, The Sikhs, The Muslims

5. Before the Names of Newspapers:

e.g. The Hindu, The Times of India, The Economic Times

6. Names enforcing Law:

e.g. The Police, The Navy, The Air Force

7. With the name of Political parties:

e.g. The Congress, The B.J.P, The R.J.D

8. With the Name of Clubs, Foundation etc. :

e.g. The Lion’s Club, The Premji Foundation

9. Before Names of an empire, dynasty or historical events:

e.g. The Old Stone Age, The First World War, The Green Revolution

10. Before Common Nouns denoting unique thins:

e.g. The Sun, The Moon, The World, The Stars 

11. Before an Adjective when the noun is understood:

Example:

• We must not shun the disabled.
• The poor would favour him.

12. Before the comparative degree:

Example:

• The more you get, the more you want
• He is the faster of the two.

13. with the Superlative degree:

Examples:

• He is the strongest contestant of this Olympic.
• She is the most beautiful girl in this group.
• Prizes would be given for the most outstanding performances.

14. With the ordinals:

Examples:

• She lives in the tenth block.
• My office is on the third floor
• I took the first taxi that came in my way

Essay topic

It is argued that governments should levy a tariff on junk food because the number of health risks associated with consuming this kind of food is on the rise. This essay agrees that a higher rate of tax should be paid by fast food companies. Firstly, this essay will discuss the fact that alcohol and tobacco companies already pay higher taxes and secondly, discuss how higher taxes would raise prices and lower consumption.

First question:  Give your agreement or disagreement with the statement.

Second question:  To what extent do you agree or disagree with the statement.

The chance of getting the score you want in 15 days to one month is pretty unpredictable. It all depends on the current level of English proficiency, your hard work, focus, and dedication.

If you currently have a high level of English proficiency (Band 6.0 - 6.5), you just need to accumulate and learn some proper techniques, tips and apply to practicing tests daily to get the score you need (Band 7.0 - 7.5).

And If you are the beginner, you should focus more on it. For example, your IELTS Reading score is 5.5 while other skills are over 6.0, you should get down to improving your reading skills by taking IELTS coaching from any proficient person having expertise in IELTS tips & tricks. 

The road to IELTS test drive:

Listening Section:

Make sure for the listening section you pay attention to every detail of the conversation. Often it isn’t that you didn’t hear the conversation, it’s just that you aren’t focused.

Reading Section:

You will have a lot of time for this section generally speaking. Be sure to make the most out of it. If you are stuck on one question go to the next. And I'm sure you are troubled by the fact that not given/false are extremely similar. The truth is, it isn’t. Don’t interpret the passage. Rather, look for evidence as questions are always evidence-based. If you can’t figure out why the statement is right or wrong 90 percent of the time the answer is not given.

Writing Section:

I’m not well qualified to speak for this section. However, you should definitely spend more time on Task 2 than Task 1. For task 1, don’t write down every detail. Be sure to note down the significant trends and relationships between two graphs if there are two graphs/diagrams. Also, use a variety of vocabulary when describing degrees of change. Here’s a list of words that you can use: minimal, slight, gradual, moderate, considerable, significant, substantial, enormous, dramatic.

Speaking Section:

Practice by recording yourself and at the end listen to your own recording to notice the inconsistencies and errors. Then you will gradually improve. I suggest you videotape you (it may seem like a stupid thing to do but it is an effective way). On the test day, go in the testing room with an assuring smile and be confident.

Remember, confidence is your best makeup. It is the key to great communication and impression.

1. First of all, you need to understand the topic of the essay for writing task 2.

2. Identify the key words in the question.

3. Find out what the question wants you to do.To be on the safe side it might be a good idea for you rewrite the question in your own words on the exam paper so that you know what exactly the question is.

4. You need to brainstorm and organise your ideas to make sure that each one of your ideas is fully explained and well supported with examples.

5. If the question solicits your opinion,make sure that you state it clearly.You must not say anything that contradicts your view in any part of your answer.

6. Spend time learning the strucutre of a good essay:Introduction,body paragraphs and conclusion.Read as many model answers as possible.

7. Never copy the question word for word for your introduction.Paraphrase the question.

8. You must write a conclusion at the end.Do not add any new information in your conclusion.Instead rephrase your key pointsand write a strong sentence that ties everything together.

9. Always employ a formal tone in each part of your writing.You need to ensure that you do not use any informal language or slang in your response.

10. Do not use bullet points.

11. You have to try to use a wide range of grammatical structures and vocabulary.

12. Remember to follow the two important of C's of IELTS writing-Cohesion and coherence.

13. Learn a lot of synonyms so your writing has a range of vocabulary and does not become repetitive.

14. Write 250 words.If your answer is underlength you will be penalised.It will suffice if it contains at least 240 words.

15. You have to put on your best writing.The examiner should be able to read and understand what you have written easily.

16. Practice makes perfect. Practise writing as many essays as you can and have them evaluated by a qualified IELTS Trainer for mistakes.

17. Attempt Task 2 first as it carries more weight and counts more towards your score.

18. Practise writing essays under exam conditions so that you will not run out of time when you sit the real exam.

19. Check your writing after you have finished. You must go over what you have written for any spelling,grammar or other errors.

20. You may either use a pencil or a pen but my advice is you must use a pencil so you can rub off any mistake you have made and fix it.
