The General American accent is often considered the most easily understood globally in spoken English. Its clarity and lack of strong regional characteristics make it widely comprehensible to speakers of various English dialects around the world.

The General American accent is often considered one of the most easily understood accents globally due to its clarity, lack of strong regionalisms, and widespread exposure through media and entertainment.

While it is comparatively challenging to achieve, yet, having a neutral accent, i.e. an accent purely derived from English phonetics works best across the English speaking populace across the world. Simply because a neutral accents is devoid of an regional imprint, and so it does not require a habitual ear to understand what is being spoken using it.

The next option is to imbibe a Midwest American accent, which is more widely and formally used in the US. It would require some decent practice to develop a habit of speaking in such an accent though.

I am in a place called Kannamangalam.  What is the correct usage? 'I am in Kannamangalam' or ' I am at Kannamangalam'.

Why modern-day writers have discarded using 'at' for villages.

Since "Kannamangalam" is a place, you need to use 'in'. Using 'at' will make your sentence sound off. So, you should say, "I am in Kannamangalam".
